The linen shirt
A shirt similar to this could be found in use for centuries. The basic pattern was squares and rectangles. This one is linen, hand stitched using linen thread, where each piece has the edges finished with a folded hem and is then assembled. The one button is a sailors' monkeyfist knot, hand tied. This shirt taught me how much more durable hand stitching is over the faster machine stitch, I wore it with my 16th century sailor gear and my 17th century tailors outfit and anytime I just needed a basic shirt.
